About Me

My name is Jan Harris and I have started this blog, harrisandyou, as part of a homework assignment.  Also, I have been interested in starting a blog as a way to communicate to others.  I am particularly interested in helping save our planet.

One of my passions is to make people aware of the amount of trash I see on the streets, sidewalks, fields, and the lakes that I live near.  I would like people to hold onto their trash until they can throw it in the trash can.  I would also like to see people throw their recyclables in a recycling can. It would be great to have cities and parks everywhere to have both a trash can and a recycling can.  This would help people to be proactive and cities would spend less on hiring employees that have to pick up the trash.

Cigarette smokers are always throwing their cigarette butts on the ground.  Why can’t they put it out and then in a trash can?  I know a person that would put out his cigarette and then hold onto it until he found a trash can. Not only are smokers littering they are also sending second hand smoke into the environment. It is unhealthful for them and us.

There are many ways we can all help the planet.  Use reusable bags when you go to the store, bring your own cup when you go to a coffee place, and of course the 3 r’s; recycle, reuse and reduce.

Thanks for reading,

Jan
