Plastic Recycling

I was just reading another blog post that talked about recycling plastic containers not only from the kitchen but also from the bathroom such as shampoo containers.  They also mentioned nail polish remover containers for recycling.  Wonderful – however if there is any polish remover left it is not recyclable.  It has to be given to the Household Hazardous Waste facility as polish remover is harmful and dangerous.  This needs to be explained to people so they understand the correct place for each type of material.

This blog mentioned how plastic bottles and containers can be recycled and made into other items such as patio furniture.  This sounds like great news and I would prefer to purchase items that have been made from recycled products.  However in the process of making the new item out of the old item they are releasing methane gas and other toxins.  And once we are done with the patio furniture or whatever item it is then what becomes of it?

Recycling is good, it stops many objects from going to the landfills.  Products should be made to be biodegradable at the start.  This is the only way we are going to stop polluting the land, air and waters.  It is the only way to get to zero waste.
